Underwood Working Hunter Pony Series

Underwood Working Hunter Pony Series

Four HOYS tickets and an inviting course of fences delighted the Polly Coles arena this morning, drawing a large number forward for the Underwood Working Hunter Pony Classes at Stoneleigh Horse Show 2016.

The Underwood 133cm class was won by Kitty Dewson on Millcroft Dow Jones but the pair had already bagged their HOYS ticket when winning at NPS Area 7, so today’s ticket, subject to verification, went to Zanthe De Wesselow riding the experienced Beat The Boss, crowned Supreme Pony at Hickstead last year. Zanthe who is a member of Tynedale Pony Club, had a 05.20am start this morning but having gained her ticket, thought it was well worth the early rise.

The winner of the Underwood Working Hunter 143cm’s was Georgia Price on her coloured pony, Optimist II. with only four going clear. Georgia has partnered Neyl for two years and also qualified for Royal International last month. George was extremely pleased with the way her 15 year old pony jumped round the well thought out track.

The Underwood 153cm class was won by Daniella Johnston on the handsome Ballyshiel Mr Monaghan. Known at home as Murphy, he was one of just six to go clear. “Murphy is a great all rounder”, Daniella says, proving his versatility competing in the SJ 1.10m at the same venue in British Showjumping National Championships where he was just out of the spoils despite a double clear. Following a well deserved rest after his two classes, Daniella and Murphy scooped Reserve in the championship. Beat The Boss was crowned Champion.

The Intermediates was taken by first time out, ‘Pebbly Ptarmigan’ owned by local Vet, Ali Butler.   Known at home as Gus, he is shared by both Ali and his rider Charlotte Bacon. Trying their hand at their first Intermediate Working Hunter, Gus and Charlotte rode a sterling round to pick up their HOYS ticket first time out. Gus is no stranger to HOYS, having competed there in 2014 in the SEIB Search For A Star series coming second.
