Stoneleigh Horse Show scheduled a busy day in the Show diary with a Ridden Class for each of the 12 individual breeds on offer.  Opening the show on the Sunday morning was the Welsh section D class which was well supported with 25 coming forward to judges of the large breeds, Adrienne Dale and Marilyn Ludlow.  The Judges had quite a task to select a winner from the competitive line up, but it was the bay Swchyrhafod Brenin ridden by Miss Michaela Wood who took the honours.  Michaela gave her stallion a faultless show and was thrilled to get her HOYS qualifier, with just seven weeks to go.

The following classes continued to keep the judges busy with 21 in the Connemara class and 19 in the highly competitive Highland class.  The Highland section was won by the 10 year old stallion Carlung Lewis where owner and rider Emily Flint was pulled forward by the judges with her beautiful 10 year old Highland.  Emily was so overwhelmed to get her first ever HOYS ticket: “I can’t believe it!” she exclaimed, “I just wanted him to do a good show.” It may be Emily’s first time qualifying for HOYS but Carlung Lewis who is known as Lewis at home, has been twice before where he was placed third and fifth in 2011 and 2012 respectively. With it being Emily’s 21st birthday just last week, this has been the best birthday present Emily could wish for. “This was our last opportunity,” continued Emily who is from Mansfield. “We have been to Midland Counties, Cheshire and the Yorkshire Show to try and qualify but now we have it, it’s all coming together for us. Between now and HOYS we won’t do much other than hack out; he’s quite low maintenance.”

The small breeds were just as well supported but it was Welsh section A Blisland Echo with rider Samantha Darlington who won her class and went on to be crowned the NPS/Baileys Horse Feeds M&M Ridden Champion of show, having only had the ride of the pony back for two weeks. The reserve went to Welsh section D winners, Swchyrhafod Brenin ridden and Miss Michaela Wood.
